Wisconsin Senator is Confident Sports Betting Bill Will Pass the Assembly
A Wisconsin Representative is confident his sports betting bill will pass the state Assembly during this session. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos has stated that Thursday will be the final day.
Sponsored by Representative Tyler August, the bill can reportedly be brought up on any legislative day, as it is currently on a delayed calendar.
“We’re still having a few more conversations on that legislation. We’re still working through some of our colleagues in the caucus just to make sure everybody’s comfortable with where it’s at,” August said.
Additionally, he added that he is confident that the bill will pass in ‘our house’. However, he did not state whether the Senate would pass the bill.
Passage of the bill would change the state’s definition of a bet and allow tribes to begin offering online sports betting if the servers are on tribal land and the bettor is in Wisconsin.
It would also amend a current agreement between tribes and the government, which allows casinos and sports betting on tribal lands.
Tribes have been advocating for the bill’s passage, stating that the legislation would modernise wagering options and ensure revenue remains in tribal communities.
