BetMGM is one of the most well-known sportsbooks in the US, and for good reason. Trust me, it’s earned its spot in the limelight. The mobile platform is incredibly sleek and gives players access to betting markets on various sports wherever they want.
It’s also integrated with tons of awesome features like live streaming and the MGM Rewards program. BetMGM is partnered with many top teams and leagues in the US, allowing players to claim unique rewards and perks. Wagering on your favorite sports teams while boosting your bankroll with awesome promos – who doesn’t want that?
Now, don’t get me wrong, I found a couple of drawbacks with BetMGM. The desktop site may not stand out from the crowd, but this didn’t stop me from enjoying the top-quality betting platform. About BetMGM
MGM Resorts International is one of the most famous casino operators in the US, operating renowned gambling locations like the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. When sports betting started becoming legal in the US outside of Nevada, the company teamed up with Entain to launch its own sportsbook. Entain is one of the biggest gambling operators globally, traded on the London Stock Exchange.
This partnership led to the launch of BetMGM Sportsbook. The sportsbook is available in dozens of US states and is the official partner of many popular US sports teams and leagues, including the MLS, NASCAR, PGA Tour, and NHL.
BetMGM Mobile Experience
The BetMGM app is available in every US state where BetMGM is licensed and allows you to enjoy convenient betting from your mobile device. The app uses a sleek gold and black design, and I found it runs quickly, so all odds update within seconds. Live streaming also runs without any issues. Navigation is straightforward thanks to expandable tabs on the screen and a help bar at the bottom with options like “Home” and “My Bets”.
If you don’t want to download the app, you can still use BetMGM on mobile by visiting the site through your mobile browser. The platform is built with HTML5 technology, so it will adapt to fit the screen size of your device. While I was disappointed not to get some mobile-exclusive features like extra security options or notifications, the mobile site still gave me full access to BetMGM’s live streaming, betting markets, and promotions.
BetMGM Desktop Experience
BetMGM is built with mobile users in mind, as the desktop site shares many of the same design choices as the mobile platform. After spending time wagering on my smartphone, I was glad to find a familiar layout and look on the desktop site. You’ll find a list of popular sports in the center of the screen and a full list of all sports on the left. At the top of the page are tabs for popular competitions and a list of the promotions available at BetMGM.
Just like on the mobile platform, at the bottom of the screen, there is a bar you can use to navigate with tabs like “My Bets” and “Home”. The betslip is also on this bar. However, unlike on mobile, this is more of a burden than a help. The bar obscures a lot of the screen and makes it harder to actually see markets. So, while the desktop site runs just as quickly as the mobile, I recommend playing through the BetMGM app or mobile site, as markets are much easier to see.
BetMGM Welcome Bonuses
Many US sportsbooks offer welcome bonuses to attract new customers, and BetMGM is no exception. Their promotions are designed to give new players a low-risk way to test out the platform while still offering the chance to score solid rewards.
Currently, BetMGM offers two different welcome bonuses, depending on your state:
- Bet $10, Get $150 in Bonus Bets (MI, NJ, PA, WV only)
Register a new account, deposit at least $10, and place your first wager of $10 or more. If your bet wins, you’ll receive $150 in bonus bets in addition to your winnings. Bonus bets are credited within 24 hours, expire in 7 days, and cannot be withdrawn. - First Bet Offer: Up to $1,500 Back in Bonus Bets (most other BetMGM states)
Sign up, deposit a minimum of $10, and place your first bet of up to $1,500. If that wager loses, you’ll receive bonus bets equal to the amount of your stake (up to $1,500). Bonus bets expire in 7 days and must be used before any winnings can be withdrawn.
It’s worth noting that BetMGM welcome offers are not available in Mississippi, where BetMGM does not currently provide a sportsbook promotion.
BetMGM Mobile Registration Process
While safety is the biggest concern of BetMGM Sportsbook, the operator keeps its sign-up process as simple as possible while keeping you secure. In fact, I completed the registration process within minutes! Follow my simple step-by-step guide below to get started.
- Download the BetMGM app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. If you are playing in Nevada, download the state-specific BetMGM Nevada Sports app.
- Alternatively, you can visit the BetMGM website through your mobile browser.
- Tap the gold “Register” button to start the sign-up process.
- Enter your email and create a password for your account. BetMGM Sportsbook will allow you to quickly create your account using an existing PayPal or Yahoo! Sports account.
- Provide your name as it appears on any photo ID and your date of birth. You must also enter the last four digits of your Social Security Number.
- Enter your phone number and your address. As you can use BetMGM as a visitor to a state, your address doesn’t have to be in the state where you are playing.
- Confirm you meet the legal gambling age requirements in the state where you are signing up and agree to the terms and conditions.
- Visit the cashier section of BetMGM and choose to deposit. Select a payment method and enter the information needed to add it to your account. Once you decide how much money to add, your deposit should reach you instantly.
- With money in your account, browse the sports betting options available and tap the odds of a market to add it to your bet slip. Choose your stake and confirm your bet.
- If you’re lucky enough to win, return to the cashier section and choose to withdraw. BetMGM Sportsbook will give you instructions on how to remove your money.
BetMGM Account Verification
Many US states have Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements players must pass to sign up with online sportsbooks. These measures are designed to protect you from fraud and underage gambling by making you verify your identity as a part of your registration. I found the verification process at BetMGM straightforward and fast. I was asked to send copies of documents like those listed below over email or through the on-site portal in the “Help and Customer Care” tab:
- Photo ID (passport, driver’s license, or another formal ID)
- Proof of address (a recent utility bill)
- Proof of payment method used (a bank statement or photo of your credit card)
The verification process will usually take a few days. Once it is complete, you will never have to verify your identity at the sportsbook again, and you’ll be free to make deposits, place bets, and withdraw any winnings.
Additionally, BetMGM mobile asked me to allow geolocation services on my device. This was so the operator could verify I was playing in a state where online sports betting is legal and BetMGM is licensed to operate. I received a prompt to allow this when I launched the BetMGM Sportsbook app, but I could also manually activate this in my device settings.
BetMGM Payment Methods
BetMGM accepts a wide range of payment methods, including many options players will recognize from day-to-day life. Bank cards like Visa and Mastercard are accepted, and I could also make direct online bank transfers into my BetMGM mobile account. Yet, my deposit method of choice is PayPal, which BetMGM Sportsbook supports alongside other popular e-wallets like Venmo. If you prefer playing on mobile, you’ll be glad to hear that BetMGM accepts mobile payments like Apple Pay.
Additionally, I could use gambling-specific payment methods like Play+ and PayNearMe. PayNearMe lets you top up your account with cash by visiting participating retailers like Walmart and CVC. The minimum deposit for most payment methods is $10, and BetMGM charges no transaction fees.
The minimum withdrawal amount for most options is also $10. BetMGM processes most withdrawals pretty fast, with transactions through Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, Venmo, and Apple Pay completed in one to three days. In my experience, these withdrawals are usually confirmed on the faster side of this range. Any withdrawals with Play+ will be completed within 24 hours. Slower withdrawal options include VIP Preferred and online banking, which take two to four days. There was also an option to request checks through the mail, which can take seven to 21 days, depending on the mail service.
One further option is to visit a casino partnered with BetMGM and request withdrawals through the casino cage cashier. This is available in Arizona, Washington D.C., Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, and Ohio.
BetMGM Betting Features
There are a few betting features at BetMGM that help it stand out from the competition. The best of these is live streaming, as BetMGM allowed me to watch events as they unfold through its platform. The sportsbook offers live streaming of a range of sports like European soccer and global tennis. I found live-streaming events indicated with a TV icon under the “Live” tab.
Another excellent betting feature at BetMGM is the easy parlay feature, where the sportsbook guided me through placing a parlay bet in minutes. This is excellent for beginner bettors who may be unfamiliar with parlays or any gambler who wants to create these wagers faster.
Additionally, BetMGM supports a loyalty program called MGM Rewards. I was automatically enrolled for free when I signed up and earned loyalty points just by placing bets. I could then use these loyalty points to redeem online prizes or real-life rewards at MGM Resorts locations, like meals and hotel stays.
BetMGM Sports and Markets
Sports bettors have a wide range of options at BetMGM, with the sportsbook providing markets for more than 20 sports. These include the most popular sports in the US, where BetMGM offers advantages by partnering with leagues and teams to provide unique bonuses. However, I was also pleased to see the sportsbook covers niche sports like biathlon, handball, and darts.
Football
The NFL is the biggest betting sport in the US, and BetMGM provides gamblers with everything they need. You’ll find a range of stats for players and teams you can use to boost your betting, as well as easy access to placing same-game parlay bets. BetMGM is also partnered with plenty of NFL franchises, meaning you may find specific offers for certain teams in many US states.
Basketball
Whether you like placing moneylines, point spreads, or totals, you’ll find all the NBA markets you’ll need at BetMGM. If you’re interested in European basketball, BetMGM mobile has live streaming of various competitions and events.
Baseball
Every MLB game is covered at BetMGM, from preseason games to the World Series. You can also create baseball parlays in seconds thanks to BetMGM’s easy parlay feature and enjoy hundreds of other types of bets on each event.
Hockey
BetMGM is an official betting partner of the NHL, so it’s no surprise that you can find hundreds of markets pre-game and in-play for NHL games. As part of its partnership, you’ll often find existing player promotions like odds boosts and bet protection for NHL games.
BetMGM Customer Support
If you have any issues while using the BetMGM app, tap the “Help and Customer Care” tab at the top of each page to get assistance. This will take you to BetMGM’s FAQs page, where there are detailed answers to many commonly asked questions. These resources are sorted into handy categories to make finding the solutions you need a breeze.
There was one particular answer I couldn’t find in the FAQs, so I decided to contact BetMGM’s customer support team, who are available 24/7 through live chat or email. Email responses usually arrive within a few hours. I connected with a live chat agent within minutes. In my experience, all BetMGM Sportsbook support agents answered my questions professionally and promptly.
BetMGM Responsible Gambling
US sportsbooks must provide responsible gambling support to launch in most US states, but BetMGM goes above and beyond with its “Gamesense” page. Once I accessed this, I found many educational resources, including advice on preventing problem gambling, BetMGM’s responsible gambling principles, and even guidance for families.
Gamesense also gave me access to third-party responsible gambling resources specific to my state. For example, visiting from Illinois, I found contact information for the Illinois Council on Problem Gambling, the Illinois Department of Human Services, and the National Council on Problem Gambling.
BetMGM State Directory
Following the US Supreme Court’s decision to strike down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA), each US state was given the power to legalize sports betting. As betting is permitted state-by-state, sportsbooks need licensing from individual states before launching.
Luckily for bettors, BetMGM is one of the most reputable sportsbooks in the US and is approved to operate in dozens of states. Check out where the sportsbook is available below.
Arizona
While many US states require sportsbooks to partner with land-based casinos, Arizona laws also allow operators to sign agreements with local sports franchises. BetMGM is partnered with the Arizona Cardinals and operates a retail sportsbook near State Farm Stadium.
Colorado
As an official sports betting partner of the NFL’s Denver Broncos, Colorado sports fans can get exclusive rewards for the team through the MGM Rewards program. BetMGM went live in CO with approval from the Colorado Limited Gaming Control Commission through a partnership with Midnight Rose Casino.
Washington D.C.
There are some unique sports betting rules in Washington D.C. that BetMGM players should be aware of, as you can only use commercial sportsbooks within two blocks of a partnered stadium. BetMGM is partnered with the Washington Nationals, so you must be within two blocks of Nationals Park to play.
Illinois
While most sportsbooks in Illinois have a land-based partner, BetMGM is the only operator to go live with an online-only license. It launched in March 2022 with approval from the Illinois Gaming Board.
Indiana
On February 27, 2020, BetMGM launched in Indiana with approval from the Indiana Gaming Commission. The online sportsbook is partnered with Belterra Casino.
Iowa
In Iowa, you previously had to register in person to enjoy online sports betting, but this requirement was removed in 2021. So, you can sign up with BetMGM Sportsbook anywhere in the state, thanks to its license from the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.
Kansas
While the Kansas City Chiefs are based in Missouri, the NFL franchise has plenty of fans in KS, and BetMGM is an official betting partner of the team. BetMGM in September 2022 after meeting the licensing standards of the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission.
Kentucky
Online sports betting went live in Kentucky on September 28, 2023, and BetMGM was available to accept customers right away. While Kentucky allows gamblers who are 18 to bet on sports, you must still be 21 years old to sign up with BetMGM in the state.
Louisiana
In Louisiana, you can only enjoy online sports betting in the 55 parishes where local voters approved it. In any of these parishes, BetMGM is available online, thanks to licensing from the Louisiana Gaming Control Board through its partnership with Sam’s Town Casino.
Maryland
BetMGM is an official partner of the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens and will provide local gamblers with exclusive bonuses for betting on the team. The sportsbook launched on November 23, 2022. You can visit a retail BetMGM sportsbook at its land-based partner, MGM National Harbor.
Massachusetts
BetMGM launched in Massachusetts on March 10, 2023, and is available online anywhere in the state. You can also visit a retail BetMGM sportsbook at MGM Springfield, where you can claim perks from the MGM Rewards program. As a baseball fan, you can benefit from exclusive promotions through BetMGM’s partnership with the Boston Red Sox.
Michigan
Partnered with the NFL’s Detroit Lions and MLB’s Detroit Tigers, BetMGM is a favorite with Michigan gamblers. This is helped further by the fact MGM Resorts International operates one of three commercial casinos in the state, the MGM Grand Detroit, where you can find a retail BetMGM.
Mississippi
In Mississippi, you can only use sports betting apps on the grounds of land-based casinos that support online sports betting. Luckily for BetMGM players, the sportsbook is one of two available online in the state if you visit the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino and Gold Strike Casino Resort.
New Jersey
Initially, MGM Resorts International launched an online casino app in New Jersey in 2017 called PlayMGM. However, this was rebranded to BetMGM in September 2019 and expanded to include sports betting. It was the first US state where BetMGM launched. MGM Resorts International owns the Borgata in Atlantic City, so you can claim all your MGM Rewards benefits at this casino.
Nevada
If you want to use BetMGM online in Nevada, visit a partnered land-based location and sign up in person first. This can be the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, where there is a retail sportsbook. BetMGM has a Nevada-specific app you need to use to play online in the Silver State.
New York
BetMGM narrowly missed out on launching on the first day of available sports betting in New York; instead, it went live just nine days later, on January 17, 2022, with approval from the New York State Gaming Commission. BetMGM is an official betting partner of the NFL’s New York Jets.
Ohio
On January 1, 2023, online sports betting launched in Ohio, and BetMGM went live with approval from the Ohio Casino Control Commission. The online sportsbook is partnered with MGM Northfield Park, where you can make in-person deposits and withdrawals from your betting account.
Pennsylvania
As an official betting partner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, BetMGM Sportsbook provides local players with plenty of exclusive rewards through the MGM Rewards program and player promotions. BetMGM was launched in PA on December 17, 2020, through a partnership with Hollywood Casino Morgantown.
Tennessee
BetMGM launched on the first day of legal sports betting in Tennessee on November 1, 2020. As TN is an online-only sports betting state, BetMGM did not need a land-based partner to receive a license from the Sports Wagering Advisor Committee.
Virginia
BetMGM Sportsbook went live in Virginia just six days after online sports betting went live on January 27, 2021. The sportsbook has an online-only license and no land-based partner but is still licensed by the Virginia Lottery.
West Virginia
BetMGM launched in West Virginia in January 2020 through a partnership with Greenbrier Casino. Local players can bet with the sportsbook to build up rewards with the MGM Rewards program and claim real-life prizes.
Wyoming
Wyoming is another online-only sports betting state, and BetMGM launched with approval from the Wyoming Gaming Commission in September 2021.
