FanDuel – Our Verdict
About FanDuel
Is there a more prominent name in the sports betting industry than FanDuel? This betting brand has swept across North America at a record pace over the last few years, entertaining millions of sports fans in the process. In fact, the FanDuel Sportsbook advertises itself as ‘America’s Number One Sportsbook,’ which is quite a claim, I know!
Yet, as my FanDuel Sportsbook review reveals, this award-winning sports betting platform has over 12 million registered users and has the right to make such bold claims. See for yourself just how advanced FanDuel is by signing up right here.
About FanDuel
The FanDuel brand first took shape in 2009 – as brainstormed in a Texas backyard by five co-founders. Back then, FanDuel focused on fantasy sports, yet its offerings today are far more extensive. FanDuel now provides sports betting services in more than 20 states, and with further legislative changes on the horizon, I expect this number to grow.
It’s not just the massive supply of sports betting markets driving this brand’s popularity either. The commitment to excellence through services such as live streaming, in-play betting, competitive odds, and creative bonuses really stands out for me. And at the time of writing, over 12 million sports fans nationwide already enjoy these benefits!
FanDuel Mobile Experience
Concerning mobile betting, few do it better than FanDuel. Its native app, available on Android and iOS in most states, is a true work of art. Then again, FanDuel is a self-declared ‘premier mobile sports betting operator,’ so I cannot say this is surprising.
But why is the app so special? In my experience, the fact that the app offers top features such as live streaming, cashouts, live betting, and daily odds boosts is an obvious reason behind its popularity. However, I must also say that the app’s navigation tools, such as clear menu links, individual search bars, and more, only add to the app’s quality. You can download the FanDuel Sportsbook app directly from the App Store for iOS devices, while Android users should install it directly from the FanDuel site.
Alternatively, since the FanDuel Sportsbook site is built on HTML5 technology, you can gamble on the go via your mobile browser without downloading any software. Thanks to this tech, the site transitions seamlessly from desktops to cell phones and tablets.
FanDuel Desktop Experience
The desktop site’s smart look and extensive products and services make it an ideal platform for wagering on your favorite sports. Not only does the site have extra links to elements such as ‘learn to bet’ and ‘parlay hub’ in its main menu, but it also follows a structure that enables you to keep your finger on the pulse at all times.
I say this because the site has implemented a visible bet slip, dynamic visuals to showcase changes in odds, and an updated flow of promotions on the homepage. Of course, the general aesthetics of the site give it a stylish appearance, too, which is different from the mobile site and native app.
FanDuel Welcome Bonuses
FanDuel Mobile Registration Process
Although the FanDuel mobile site accompanies the native app in states that support mobile betting, I’d recommend registering on the app if possible. That’s because, on the whole, the app offers a superior betting experience compared to the mobile site. As for the steps required, I’ve listed them here:
-
-
- Download the FanDuel Sportsbook app (App Store for iOS, FanDuel site for Android).
- Open the app and hit ‘join now’ (green button).
- Add your personal details, create your FanDuel account details, and agree to T&Cs.
- Sign in and head to the banking section.
- Select deposits, choose a payment option and deposit at least $10 into your account.
- Place a $5+ real-money wager on any sports market. If your bet wins, you’ll receive $100 in Bonus Bets within 72 hours of settlement.
FanDuel Account Verification
I recommend verifying your account details as soon as you create your FanDuel account. Doing so will make your first withdrawal a little quicker and easier. Specifically, FanDuel is required to perform checks under individual gambling laws to ensure you are allowed to bet – simple. Since these checks must verify your age and residence status, you can upload copies of the following documents to your FanDuel account:
-
- Photo ID (passport, driver’s license, or another formal ID)
-
- Proof of address (a recent utility bill)
-
- Proof of payment method used (a bank statement or photo of your credit card)
FanDuel Payment Methods
Although a few payment methods vary in certain states, FanDuel has a fixed range that most members can access:
-
- Credit/Debit Cards – Maestro, MasterCard, Visa
-
- E-Wallets – PayPal, Neteller, Skrill
-
- Pay in Person (FanDuel retail location only)
This small but trustworthy set of payment methods is commendable, and I experimented with several of them with no trouble at all. Furthermore, FanDuel tends to credit deposits immediately, while withdrawal requests typically take just a few business days to come through. Lastly, each transaction must meet the $10 stated minimum, which is, again, favorable.
FanDuel Betting Features
It goes without saying that FanDuel didn’t become America’s number-one betting platform by accident. And it didn’t get there by simply covering a wide range of sports and markets. Of course, other betting sites cover plenty of top leagues and events, but FanDuel stands out through what I’d consider ‘premium betting features.’
Scroll through the FanDuel Sportsbook, and some of the best features relate to live streaming, in-play betting, cashouts, and same-game parlays. There are even dedicated sections where newcomers can learn how to bet, while regular users get to view ‘popular bets’ on the main page, showing how many members have backed this market and what the returns could be.
FanDuel Sports and Markets
If you look at any standard event for one of the main leagues in North America, there’s a strong chance you’ll see 100+ markets at FanDuel. Such a range covers main markets like moneylines, handicaps, spreads, over/under totals, and much more. Yet, dive beneath the surface, and you’ll encounter things like player props, special ‘yes or no’ markets, and half-by-half or quarter-by-quarter markets.
Note that the most extensive offerings relate to leagues like the NBA, MLS, NFL, NHL, and MLB. But the FanDuel Sportsbook offers a surprisingly diverse set of markets for sports like tennis, golf, horse racing, and even NCAA events. Bear in mind that FanDuel also services these markets through pre-match, live, and futures betting.
Football
As the most popular sport in America, FanDuel covers every NFL game throughout the regular season and the postseason. In fact, FanDuel creates futures markets way ahead of each season, too, allowing you to wager on who could win the Super Bowl and who the participants will be. Speaking of the Super Bowl, FanDuel issues plenty of top promotions when this event approaches.
Basketball
During the regular NBA season, the number of events is extraordinary. Games are played all over the country almost every night, and the selection of markets regularly surpasses the 100 mark. Of course, FanDuel doesn’t disappoint once the playoffs begin either, offering exclusive futures markets and other specials like who the MVP award will go to.
Baseball
Baseball is another of FanDuel’s top sports for a specific reason. Recently, the FanDuel Sportsbook partnered with the MLB to offer streaming services for MLB games through its platform. In addition, FanDuel covers every single regular-season game, with markets like player props, handicaps, and moneyline options serving as key choices. And when the World Series kicks in, FanDuel creates a range of ‘special markets’ to consider, too.
Hockey
The NHL is just as extensive as the other leagues I’ve discussed above. As played between October and April of the regular season, FanDuel covers 1,300+ NHL games during these months. FanDuel keeps its intense coverage when 16 teams advance through to the postseason schedule, too, with betting options for all games split between pre-match and live wagering. Specifically, these options include a range of moneyline, point totals, props, handicaps, and futures.
FanDuel Customer Support
As many would expect from a betting brand as colossal as FanDuel, it offers around-the-clock support for all. This means 24/7 support services for everyone, which complements the already extensive FAQ section. As for the specific customer service channels provided by FanDuel Sportsbook, these include live chat, X (Twitter), and email.
That said, the best option, in my experience, is the live chat service available through the website and mobile app. I never waited more than a couple of minutes to connect with an agent, and they can help with everything from account queries to betting concerns.
FanDuel Responsible Gambling
FanDuel is one of the most visible betting brands in the USA, and it has a strong commitment to responsible gambling, which is actively encouraged on the site. FanDuel even lists a support number that members can use free of charge to speak with professionals on this issue if they feel they need it.
In addition, the sportsbook has tools that you can use to stay in control. Examples include deposit limits, timeout specifications, and reality checks, which show how long you’ve spent logged in. These are more than sufficient for me, and I believe that FanDuel’s inclusion of links to external help services is a subtle yet great indicator of how seriously the site takes this issue.
FanDuel State Directory
As I’ve mentioned throughout this FanDuel Sportsbook review, this brand operates in 20+ states right now, including:
Arizona
FanDuel launched in Arizona in September 2021 through a partnership with the Phoenix Suns. Its entire sportsbook range is available in Arizona, although prop betting on NCAA events is not permitted.
Colorado
Colorado was one of the earlier additions to FanDuel’s operations. FanDuel launched here in May 2020 under an agreed partnership with the Golden Gates Casino. It has served sports bettors well through its mobile app and desktop site ever since.
Connecticut
The standout casino in Connecticut is Mohegan Sun, which teamed up with FanDuel to facilitate its launch in October 2021. The FanDuel Sportsbook hasn’t looked back since, with mobile and retail betting proving extremely popular in CT to this day.
Illinois
Much like Connecticut, Illinois allows online and in-person sports betting. That said, FanDuel offers both in Illinois through its mobile app, desktop, and mobile sites, as well as its retail location, which is self-branded – FanDuel Sportsbook & Horse Racing. The site has been live here since August 2020.
Indiana
Indiana was one of FanDuel’s first targets following the state’s changes to sports betting laws in 2019. Specifically, the FanDuel Sportsbook launched here in October 2019, which was made possible by partnering with the Belterra Casino Resort.
Iowa
The chosen partner in Iowa was (and still is) Diamond Jo Casinos, with whom FanDuel joined forces to launch in September 2020. All of its sports betting services are available in Iowa, but prop betting on NCAA athletes and credit card transactions aren’t allowed.
Kansas
FanDuel first became available in Kansas in September 2022, and the site soon gained significant traction. Its partnership with the Kansas Star Casino automatically pulled in sports fans, and FanDuel remains a heavy hitter in this state for online betting.
Kentucky
I’m sure you’ve heard of the Triple Crown in horse racing. I mention that because FanDuel joined forces with Churchill Downs to launch in Kentucky in September 2023, and this is the racetrack where the famous Kentucky Derby takes place. Needless to say, this is a great partnership, and FanDuel pays special attention to horse racing in this state as a result.
Louisiana
FanDuel launched simultaneously with sites like DraftKings in Louisiana in January 2022. The existing partnership in this state is with the Amelia Belle Casino, which is why FanDuel caters to both online and retail betting in Louisiana.
Maryland
Heard of the Live! Casino and Hotel in Maryland? It’s one of the largest retail casinos in the state, and it has a FanDuel Sportsbook ready for residents to enjoy at any time. Of course, this partnership means FanDuel offers online betting in Maryland, as has been the case since November 2022.
Massachusetts
The Massachusetts gambling market is a little more unique than the others. No retail betting exists here, yet FanDuel has a solid online presence. The FanDuel Sportsbook first went live in March 2023 here, and the full range of sportsbook products are available.
Michigan
FanDuel needed around a year to execute its partnerships and licenses in Michigan, meaning it launched in January 2022 – a year after other established brands. The chosen partnership here is with MotorCity Casino, and the FanDuel app is the go-to platform for residents in this state.
New Jersey
As many of you will know, NJ served as the gateway state for how a successful sports betting landscape could look. And FanDuel dived right in, opening its doors to the New Jersey market in September 2018 through a deal with Meadowlands Racetrack. FanDuel Sportsbook offerings are accessible through the native app, desktop, and mobile sites.
New York
The scope of FanDuel services in New York is commendable, although you cannot bet on in-state college teams. The FanDuel mobile app facilitates most bets in the state, but the desktop and mobile sites are also live. As for its partnership, this remains with the Tioga Downs Casino Resort, enabling FanDuel to operate in New York from January 2022.
North Carolina
North Carolina is the most recent jewel in the FanDuel crown. FanDuel launched here in March 2024 under a partnership with the PGA Tour. This means its online site and mobile app are accessible in North Carolina, with a special focus on golf – unlike other states.
Ohio
Ohio is a sports betting-friendly state, meaning FanDuel has no real restrictions in terms of its markets or sports coverage. Additionally, FanDuel has a deal with Belterra Park, as has been the case since January 2023 – a partnership that continues today.
Pennsylvania
The Pennsylvania betting market opened in 2019, and FanDuel went live here in July 2019 through a partnership with the Valley Forge Casino Resort. Because of this, PA residents have access to the FanDuel retail sportsbook and its online platforms.
Tennessee
Tennessee remains an ‘online only’ betting state, meaning the FanDuel Sportsbook is only available via its native app and website. FanDuel has operated here since November 2020, making Tennessee one of its more established locations.
Vermont
Apart from FanDuel’s launch in North Carolina, Vermont is the state where FanDuel last set up shop. However, Vermont is also an ‘online only’ state for sports betting, leaving sports fans dependent on the website and mobile app for sports betting access. This has been the case ever since FanDuel launched here in January 2024.
Virginia
The FanDuel Sportsbook is available in Virginia through its desktop site, mobile site, and native app (iOS and Android). It has been in Virginia since January 2021, and restrictions remain in place for betting on in-state college teams.
West Virginia
The Greenbrier is the chosen partner for FanDuel in West Virginia, and this is a long-standing deal dating back to FanDuel’s initial launch in September 2018. This means all FanDuel betting options are available here – including its online casino product!
Wyoming
Last but not least, FanDuel is also open for business in Wyoming, which has been the case since March 2022. However, no retail sports betting offerings exist for FanDuel in Wyoming, meaning its products are solely accessible through the mobile app and website.150
